Perkz could be one of the most valuable esports players, with the deal reported to be worth around US$5million

Cloud9 has reportedly reached teams to acquire Luka “Perkz” Perkovi from G2 Esports, ahead of the 2021 League Of Legends season.

According to ESPN’s Jacob Wolf, Cloud9 has made “verbal commitments” to buy out Perkz, with both organisations coming to an agreement on Thursday (November 12). However, the deal has yet to be made official, as the League Of Legends free agency market only opens on November 16.

The Croatian mid-laner’s move to Cloud9 also means that the organisation’s current mid-laner, Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer, will be available for buyout, Wolf notes. In addition, G2 Esports will likely also be on the search for a new Attack Damage Carry to replace Perkz.

It was previously reported that G2 Perkz was being shopped to Cloud9 for US$5million. G2 Esports, which Luka “Perkz” Perkovi has been with since 2015, was said to be shopping the mid-laner around to multiple other organisations – including 100 Thieves, TSM and Team Vitality – according to ESPN’s Jacob Wolf, with Perkz’s “desired destination” being Cloud9.

However, Wolf also stated that G2 and Cloud9 had not come to an agreement on Perkz’s buyout yet, which is “just shy” of US$5million. He added that the deal could “very well NOT happen” if the two organisations are unable to find common ground. But if the deal does go through, it would reunite Perkz with his former G2 League Of Legends teammate Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen.

Soon after Wolf’s report broke, Cloud9’s official Twitter account posted a gif of someone throwing money at the screen. A couple of hours after, the account uploaded a seemingly photoshopped image of Perkz wearing a jersey in the organisation’s color, in response to the player going live on Twitch.

However, neither Cloud9, G2 nor Perkz have officially commented on the potential record-breaking deal. Despite that, fans have been quick to react to the report with YouTuber Dr Disrecpected jokingly saying that he feels “insulted”. Meanwhile, some have also started creating memes featuring Perkz.

In other League Of Legends news, Fnatic players Bwipo and Nemesis recently defended T1 following fan backlash over the organisation’s management of its team. In a Twitlonger post, Bwipo wrote: “If you can’t find the patience and willingness to believe in your teams decisions, perhaps it is time to reconsider what made you follow T1.”

Meanwhile, Riot Games previously announced Ruined King, a new RPG spin-off of League Of Legends. The game is being developed by Airship Syndicate, best known for Darksiders: Genesis, in partnership with Riot Games’ Riot Forge initiative, which allows third-party developers to work on games using the League of Legends IP.
