Improvements include 120fps gameplay, 4K resolution and more

Microsoft has announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be optimised for the upcoming Xbox Series consoles.

The next-gen update will arrive on November 17, a week after the launches of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10, and will be free for all current owners of the game. Additionally, the title is also available for free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Microsoft announced on Twitter that the game will “fully optimised” for the upcoming next-gen systems. The enhancements include both the campaign and multiplayer being fully playable in 120fps, improvements for split-screen play, as well as 4K resolution on the Xbox Series X.

During its lifespan on the Xbox One, Halo: The Master Chief Collection received multiple updates and content drops. Both Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST were added after the compilation’s initial launch. It also received an Xbox One X patch, which introduced 4K visuals.

A PC version of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection was released in December 2019. Recently, Halo 3: ODST’s Firefight mode was added to the collection for players to dive into. In the future, cross-play support has been announced to be arriving to bring console and PC players together.

The latest mainline instalment in the series, Halo Infinite, was originally intended to be a launch title for the Xbox Series consoles. However, the game has since been delayed until 2021. 343 Industries stated that the extra time will allow for the “critical work necessary to deliver the most ambitious Halo game ever”.
